I totally get that Christmas can be a sad and lonely and hard time of the year, when all seems merry, some are dealing with great sadness or disappointment or might simply be feeling stressed and tired and less than enough. You may even be finding yourself out of patience, out of time, out of money and out of hope, without love or joy or peace in your heart.
This Christmas Eve I want to encourage you in writing about the joy of Christmas, because no matter what, for me it stays the most wonderful time of the year.
I pray that with these words you will be reminded of that too...
"For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.."
I am sure you have heard to the song: “O come, o come Emmanuel” (Francesca Battistelli sings the song beautifully), it is a song of the ache and a longing cried out by Israel for the Saviour promised to them to come.
When I listen to that song, all my heart wants to ache along in pain... almost feeling that same longing and need that we have without Jesus.
But you see, we have Jesus. He is with us. Emmanuel, God with us, has come!!
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was born as a baby that blessed day in Bethlehem. God came in human form to restore our relationship with the Father and save us all from the penalty of sin.
Jesus came to save the world, He did not come to bring the peace that people expected Him to bring. Jesus came to give us a peace of heart, a peace of mind, the peace that surpasses all understanding. Jesus said that in this world we would have trouble, but that He had overcome the world. No matter our trouble, peace is saying it is well with my soul. Only Jesus can give that kind of Peace.
As believers we have a hope, Jesus has won over death and to every believer, an eternity with Him, awaits us. We have this Hope as an anchor for the soul.
And we have Joy, we experience this joy of the Spirit within us and also the day when seeing our King and Saviour in person. We have this awesome intimate relationship with God because of Jesus and what a joyous moment it will be to finally feel the wrap of His arms around us and His loving kindness welcoming us into eternity with Him.
And then His God-Love, the love so complete and fullfilling, that for us as humans it’s incomprehendable; a love that is never ending and never failing, the kind of love that keeps on giving.
A love that never gives up or never gives in on us.
A love that fights for us even when we have walked away.
A love that continues to forgive and forget and carries on when it hurts.
The kind of love that makes us better and changes us into people who can give that same love to others.
This Christmas, I pray for you a feast, a feast at the table with our Master and King. Sit with Him and talk about all that’s on your heart.
Give Him your aches and longings.
Cry about your disappointments and failings and let Him comfort you.
Eat with Him the bread (symbol of His body broken) and drink with Him the wine (symbol of His flood flowing) and remember what He did that day on the cross when He paid the full price for all your sin and shame.
Let His precious blood wash you clean and let His Spirit fill you with wholeness.
Go on and shine your light into a world that is dark.
This world needs YOU.
God has a GOOD plan for your life and He is a GOOD GOOD Father.
God will never fail or leave you. He is with you until the end of days and you can find shelter under His wings.
Jesus is the bread of life and water that will quench your thirst forever. You no longer have to live as a slave to fear, you are a Child of God. And so you are a heir of everything that the King pocesses. And our King is the Creator of all.
Live your alliance to King Jesus, be loyal servant and live as a true representative of His Kingdom. Reforge your Sword, the Word of God and let it bring truth to your life. We are an army and we’re in a battle, but we have our King with us. He has already won.
Have a blessed Christmas, remembering the true reason we celebrate this most wonderful season. We have been given LOVE, JOY, HOPE and PEACE.
