I have always enjoyed all things creative, it relaxes me and gives me great pleasure and enjoyment in the making and using of that which I created. I’ve always thought of ideas and ways to live out my passion for arts and crafts. As a young adult, I decided to study to become an Interior Decorator and then enjoyed working my creativity full-time. When I became pregnant with my first child I knew that I would prefer my time with our precious daughter and to keep our own home instead.
This year I became a part of The Inspire Collective, this is a collective that strive to inspiring and connecting women to discover their purpose, embrace their passion and live with courage and creativity. These women I have connected with, have certainly inspired me to start the journey of discovering, embracing and living out my creativity courageously.
Let me share some of my own thoughts and beliefs on creativity with you.
I am creative.
I can sing. I can draw. I can paint. I have good rhythm although I have never been taught to dance and the same with music able to copy and play a simple tune on the piano. I absolutely love spoken language and love writing my thoughts down. I enjoy gardening, noticing and touching and taking in every part of the beautiful nature surrounding me. I am good at making and creating new things too and enjoy seeing my idea become reality. However most of my time spent is fulfilling all the tasks that goes along with being a mother and daily I care for my children and support my husband. I organise the house and all activities and prepare healthy meals for my family.
Certainly a lot of creativity goes into our every day work too, but when we hear this word, arts and crafts come to mind, although that is not all creativity is.
The meaning of the word creativity in the oxford dictionary is explained as the use of imagination or original ideas to create something; inventiveness.
I believe we are all creatives.
We are able to create and make and build things that are useful and good and pretty.
Every person on earth was created by an incredibly artistic creator. You but only have to look around at people and our natural surroundings to notice the creativity that flows from God.
As a result of going to The Inspire Collective events, I have begun dreaming about pursuing some of my own creative interest again. Initially realising that I needed a relaxing break from my normal and secondly as I felt it a requirement to spend time focusing on my own interest. I also began thinking and asking myself what I am, apart from being a mother and a wife?
During this year, both my daughter’s spoke of me at school as being “an Artist”?! For the past 10 years I have mostly thought of myself as just "being a mother" and having to fill "stay-at-home-mother" into that occupation-block of all forms of registration etc. All these years I have been crafting with my children, sketching quick drawings, showing them how to use paintbrushes and mix paint and in recent years also started making my own polymer jewellery. I realised that "an Artist" was something that they have recognised in me, that I have just forgotten about while being busy taking care of others.
I am an Artist.
Pretty cheeky of me to say this when I don't have the degree to go with I realise, however hear me out as I am trying to courageously be brave here. I believe that I can consider myself to be an Artist, because my Father God is THE ARTIST of all Artists and I have inherited His creativeness.
We were made in the image of God and as His children, are heirs to all that belongs to our Father God according to Romans 8:14-18. God is Creator and so we are creative too. I am a child of Almighty God and because my Father is the Creator and my Lord is His Son, Jesus Christ, I believe that I (including you) also inherited the artistic creative abilities of our Creator God. Every person is creative in some way and we are able to create.
And Psalm 139: 1-18 tells us how we were thought of even before we were formed in our mother’s womb! Our Creator God is One Who has been thinking of us even before we were in our mother’s womb and it says that in those inner parts He was looking at us and thinking off all the good plans He had for our future!! And Jeremiah 29:11 reads that God knows the plan He has for us and those plans are plans to prosper us, to give us a future and a Hope.
God created everything. He created life and He created every person, He is the Creator God. The One Who breathed and gave us Life. He is Love and love is creative. God is able to love in a way that is too great for us to understand. This Love of God is unfailing, unchanging and never ending! Jesus came to live out that love in action and asked us to do the same.
John 13:34-35 (NKJV)
"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
God created me. He is the potter, I am the clay. We have been moulded by His own hand, made especially, with love and to love. According to Ephesians 2:10 we are His Masterpiece!
Ephesians 2:10 NLT
"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."
The New Kings James Version says:
"For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."
I believe these works that God has prepared for us are to follow in His creativity and LOVE Him and others by doing so.
Matthew 22:36-40 NKJV
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
Let's think about how we can use our creativity to love God and love one another.
I feel that there is nothing more truly artistic than to love people. -Vincent van Gogh.
