I have have this card stuck on my kitchen cupboard above my kettle. I read these words when I make myself my first cup of tea in the morning, and today it was later than usual. Lamentations 3:22-23 His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.
While driving home after taking my two older daughters to school this morning, the song, 'Dear younger me', by Mercy Me was playing on the radio and for me the following lyrics stood out:
You are holy You are righteous You are one of the redeemed Set apart a brand new heart You are free indeed
Every mountain every valley Thru each heartache you will see Every moment brings you closer To who you were meant to be Dear younger me, dear younger me
There's so much truth and encouragement in these words especially for us as followers of Jesus. We are reminded of who we are in Christ and that our earthly life develops and shapes our character.
At the cross, Jesus took all our shame upon Him and redeemed us. Jesus paid the price for our sin and we were made right with God. No longer do we have to stay separated from God by our sin, we can now have a close relationship with our Heavenly Father.
When we do wrong, we but only have to lay down our sin at the cross. We can receive forgiveness and run into the loving open arms of a Father Who waits for and greets us with kisses! What a wonderfully good Father that is! Jesus gave us that picture in the Parable of the Lost Son in Luke 15:11-31.
Do you realise that you can never do too much wrong and stray off too far from God's way, that His love won't find you?! When we return to Him, He forgives and forgets and receives us with love. And God's love reaches beyond any human understanding and limit.
Paul writes A Prayer for the Ephesians in
Ephesians 3:14-21 NIV
For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
God is faithful and every day He has new mercies for us. Nothing can seperate us from God's love.
I love the New International Version of the above verse from my card;
Lamentations 3: 19-26 NIV:
I remember my affliction and my wandering,
the bitterness and the gall.
I well remember them,
and my soul is downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind
and therefore I have hope:
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.”
The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
It doesn't matter if your yesterday failed. Your mistakes and your shortcomings can all be left in your yesterday and a new day with new opportunities and chances awaits you. You are a child of the Most High God and your identity is placed in Christ.
Because of God's great love and mercy, He has compassion on us and we have hope for our today.
His love never fails and His mercies are new every morning. What a faithful God we serve! We can indeed wait on and put our hope in Him.
